GP to host "Back To School Bargain Bonanza"

With today's economic situation, the GP school district is finding itself having to ask for more help from parents and the community to try to provide the same level of educational experience that our students have grown to know and love. Due to recent budget cuts, schools all across America are asking parents to dig a little deeper into their pockets to help cover small expenses like dry erase markers, tissues, etc. in order for the districts to be able to use the extra money for educational materials such as text books and reading programs, areas that the districts had been forced to cut back in due to state funding deficits.
As a way to show our parents and our community that we understand the frustration and the hardship of having to get our students ready for the "Back To School" season, our principal, Keppen Clanton, master-minded the idea of a "Back-To-School Bargain Bonanza." This large yard sale will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 in the big gym at the high school in Griggsville. Prices on items will range from a quarter to $5 with most items being in the quarter to $1 range.
"We want to make this an affordable way for our parents to cloth their children and not have to worry about that added expense of clothing when they are trying to fill back to school supply lists, get physicals for their children, pay for uniforms, etc," said Clanton. "Hopefully, this will take off and be a yearly event."
We are asking parents to donate gently-used clothing consisting of jeans, t-shirts, dresses, sweaters, coats, hats, mittens, gloves and shoes. We are looking for all sizes of clothing that would fit our students ranging from Pre-K age to our high schoolers. If anyone has any clothing that they would like to donate, please bring it in to our high school office and Cathy or Trish will direct you to a location where we will be storing the clothing.
TEAM IMPACT will be helping with the event, so members need to make sure to attend the Team Impact meeting when we get back to school! See Mrs. Wilke for more details.
We want to know your thoughts about this event:
