Lady Eagles rock the Wolverine's world with a come-from-behind win!

Coach calls for squeeze play; Powers & Kessinger execute!

August 26, 2010

The Lady Eagles took the field Thursday hoping to add another "W" to their record. The Lady Eagles struggled to find home plate most of the game and found themselves at a 3-0 deficit at the top of the fifth inning.

However, the Lady Eagles were determined and began to battle back. In the bottom of the sixth inning, down 3-2 with two outs and the bases loaded. Coach Craven dug deep into his bag of tricks and informed Lexi Kessinger, who was on third, and Bailey Powers, who was up to bat, that they needed a squeeze play and they needed perfect execution! Rumor has it that Kessinger looked at Coach Craven and said in her most respectful manner, "You are crazy!" Coach replied with a calm, "You have to get in there Lex, we are tying this game!"

With the pressure of a game on the line, Bailey Powers takes the plate and lays down the perfect bunt for the squeeze play. Kessinger hustles to home and the play at the plate was "SAFE!"

In the top of the seventh inning with two outs and one Wolverine runner on base, the batter pops up a high foul ball. It seemed as everyone on the Eagles bench knew where the ball was except for the catcher, Lexi Kessinger. With the crowd chanting "UP! UP!", Kessenger throws her mask and catches the ball in the fence for the final out of the night. The team is now 6-1 on the season with their only loss being to Payson-Seymour.
