My wife and I had the opportunity to enjoy our first "Apple Festival". We enjoyed the food, parade, and other festivities. I was proud of our students for taking such an active part in the festival and community. It is good to see our students be a part of the Griggsville Apple Festival tradition.
We have reached the half way point of the first quarter. D-F notices were sent out on Thursday, September 22 with the end of the first quarter on Friday, October 14. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 20 (5-8pm) and Friday, October 21 (8-11:30am). Report cards will be handed out at this time. If you do not need a conference, please stop by the office during these times and we will get your child's report card. Any report cards not picked up on conference days will be sent home with the students on Monday, October 24. School will be dismissed at 2:30pm on October 20 and school will not be in session on October 21 due to P/T Conferences. We would like to encourage parents to keep up to date on their child's grades by using our Parent Connect website. You may access this through our school website www.griggsvilleperry.org .
I would like to thank the elementary teachers, parents, and students in making "Rhyme Time" a success. We were very happy to sponsor this event and spend the evening with the students, parents, and grandparents. It was an enjoyable evening.
At the high school students have been busy with many activities. Volleyball and football are winding down, with the basketball season just around the corner. Our volleyball team will be hosted "Volley for Hope" on Monday, October 3 against North Greene High School. "Volley for Hope" is one way we can get the message out and show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness. We had a great turnout and the gym was filled with pink to show our support.
Our FFA and Ag Department has been very active with the latest event a first place finish at the Sectional FFA Forestry contest. Mitchel Smith placed second, Alex Tedrow was fourth, and Kyle Bentley was seventh. Riley Bradshaw was second in the Greenhand Division. Also competing for GPHS was Jon Manson and Kendall Hannant. They advanced to state where they placed seventh out of twenty-five teams.
GPHS hosted a Farm Safety Assembly on September 19 in honor of National Farm Safety Week. Trevor Hoffer was the guest speaker. Mr. Hoffer was injured in a serious farm accident, when he was a teenager. KHQA was also here for a demonstration on being a "Distracted Driver". Please don't text and drive.
Last, but not least, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate GPMS Eagles and Lady Eagles on an outstanding season. We are very proud of your accomplishments. In closing, I just want to add "GO CARDINALS".
