Winter is on its way!!!
by Andrea Allen
Winter is, of course, on its way and with it we often experience poor road conditions. Please be sure that you have contacted the schools with your phone number if you wish to be included for our automated phone messaging system. Keep in mind that if the system is launched to deliver a message, you need to say "hello" and then wait a couple of seconds to allow the message to be delivered to you. If you do not wait those two seconds, you will not receive the message and may run the risk of being uninformed regarding school cancellations or early dismissals.
Early dismissals or school cancellations are also announced using WBBA Radio (97.5 on the FM dial), WGEM, KHQA, WGCA, WTAD, KHMO, KPCR, KJFM and WLDS.
In case of early dismissals, please be sure your child knows what his/her "backup plan" may be if school dismisses early. Should he/she go ahead and ride the bus, go to a neighbor's house, or go ahead and walk home as usual?
If the snow does begin to fly and you need something to keep your elementary or junior high students entertained, they might enjoy playing some language arts, reading, or mathematics games on the computer. The following are some free Internet sites your students may enjoy:
www.primarygames.com www.pbskids.org
www.mathplayground.com www.starfall.com
There are many, many other free academic sites you may find if you simply search "free academic games" or "free reading activities."
