The GPHS Tornadoes brought home a third place trophy from the WIT this past weekend. The Tornadoes entered the tournament in the 7th seed position and were just a few points and few seconds from playing in the championship round.
The Tornaodes dominated Western in the opening round of the tournament and went on to defeat the Carrollton Hawks in a thrilling revenge OT game defeating the #2 seeded Hawks by a score of 71-67.
Game three found the Tornadoes playing Routt, who continue to be a bump in the road for the Tornadoes, as they fell to them landing GP a shot at the third place trophy. The Tornadoes just couldn't get the shots to fall in the Routt game but there is no doubt that Coach Bradshaw and the boys will set their sights on Routt down the road and use this loss as a motivation just as they did with the Hawks who defeated them in the Carrollton Tournament. GP was able to seek revenge on the Hawks and defeat them in what was probably the best game of the entire tournament!
The last night of the tournament, GP played Waverly who was a smaller team but well known for shooting the threes. The Tornadoes were able to shut down the outside shots and used their size to their advantage as they fed senior Clayton Myers the ball landing them third place in the tournament and also helping Myers achieve an impressive 29 points on the night.
Congrats to the team, the coaches, the cheerleaders and the fans for an outstanding performance in the tournament!
