Students visit cadaver demonstration
On January 20, 2015, twenty-seven students from the Anatomy/Physiology, Health
Occupation, and Psychology classes traveled to St. Louis University to attend an AIMS
(Adventures in Medicine and Science) programs. The morning program the students attended
was the AIMS Forensic Autopsy Cadaver Demonstration presented by an AIMS Anatomy
Specialist. The program discussed the basic procedure of a forensic autopsy, during which the
principles of objectivity, scientific method and evidence gathering were outlined.
In the afternoon, Students participated in an interactive human cadaver demonstration at
the Practical Anatomy facility. The demonstration exposed students to the physiological and
anatomic relationships of the major organ systems of the human body and described to them how
those systems can be affected by disease. Demonstrations were given by medical students and
professionals in health careers using pre-dissected cadavers and anatomical specimens. There
was a focus on pathologies present in the specimens with an emphasis on preventive measures to
encourage a healthy lifestyle. Students had a chance to put on gloves and explore the anatomy
with the guidance of the presenters.
