Middle School to Introduce New Behavior Rewards and Expectations

The S.O.A.R. program is expected to help recognize and reward students for doing the right thing

Parents and Guardians,

Griggsville-Perry Middle School will be introducing some new behavior expectations and rewards.  This program, S.O.A.R. (safety, organization, acceptance, and respect & responsibility) will target more unstructured areas, such as hallways, bathrooms, the cafeteria, recess, the school bus, and assemblies.  This program will be enforced and implemented building-wide.

Of course, a large component of this effort will be recognizing students doing the right thing and being rewarded for doing so.  We plan on introducing “feathers”—tickets that students earn when caught doing the right thing.  These tickets may be redeemed for rewards.  We are also hoping to have a few bigger events as well that will connect with this program.

On December 6th, we are planning on starting our day by moving all middle school students through stations in groups to describe our expectations for the aforementioned areas.  We will provide reminders of our expectations to students through the rest of December as we understand this will be a learning process for each individual.  Our goal is to have our S.O.A.R. program fully implemented starting January 3rd.  After that date, there will be disciplinary consequences for not meeting our behavior expectations.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this new program.  We believe this program will be an asset to our students and school!
