Nicole Bowen
Elementary Special Education Teacher, K-4 Self Contained Cross-Categorical
Nicole Bowen is an elementary special education teacher in a K-4 self-contained cross-category classroom. Nicole’s attributes her decision to pursue special education to wanting to make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities and learning differences as well as advocating for those students' needs. Nicole firmly believes that all children can learn and succeed.
Nicole attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL where she double majored in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education and Sign Language Interpretation. After graduating in 2008, she took the position she served during student teacher teaching as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant teacher, where she remained for 5 years before accepting a position closer to home. Nicole came to Griggsville-Perry December of 2017.
Nicole obtained her Master’s Degree in Technology in Teaching: Curriculum and Instruction in 2010. She is a Level 1 Google Certified Teacher and is currently studying to become a Level 2 Google Certified Teacher. She was nominated for an Illinois Those Who Excel and Teacher of the Year Award for 2023.
In college, Nicole enjoyed phonology, audiology, and American Sign Language and would love to revisit these studies or to even pursue a degree in one of those concentrations.
Nicole was born and raised primarily in Pittsfield. She resides in Pittsfield with her husband Matthew, two children Declan, age 11, and Paislee, age 6. In addition to her children, Nicole also cares for two senior Chihuahuas, Olivia and Pico. In her nonexistent free time, she enjoys scrapbooking, card-making, drawing, and spending time with her family.
