Barbara Webel
Title I Reading Teacher
Barbara Webel is the Title I Reading teacher at Griggsville-Perry Elementary School. Barb has taught in the district for 23 years, with the last 11 in her current position.
Barbara is a 1989 graduate of Western Illinois University with a Master of Science degree in Reading Education. She is a member of the Illinois Reading Council and attends the annual IRC Reading Conference in Peoria/Springfield.
Barb sees intervention as a way to prevent and alleviate reading difficulties. She has been trained by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education in the Orton-Gillingham approach. While this approach was originally used to teach individuals with dyslexia how to read, educators now realize that the program is applicable to all learners.
Barb currently lives on a farm in rural Versailles with her husband Rick and their dog Molly. Barb has two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kaitlyn Risley and Steven and Tiffany Risley, four grand-children, Karter, Rayni, Caroline, and Catherine, four step-children and 14 step-grandchildren.
